Going natural

Hello lovelies!

I’ve been trying to watch what I eat and make the switch to better eating. It’s only natural to want to learn and make the switch to a Natural beauty routine. After all, your skin’s your largest organ, and if you’re watching what you’re putting into your body, you’ll probably find yourself  concerned about what’s being absorbed into the skin.

It all started while I was pregnant with Chloe I was very cautious about what I ate. When I was doing research about what not to eat while pregnant I read about things we put on our skin that could be harmful too- skincare products, hair dye, etc. I slowly removed most of my skincare products (I was using things that were strong to help even out my blotchy skin). I stopped using deodorant. I honestly wasn’t sure if I could make the switch but as I slowly removed products and realized I didn’t really need them, it wasn’t so bad. The first to go was moisturizer and Deodorant.

Chloe had sensitive and dry skin from the get go and still does. So we both use coconut oil to moisture. I recently made a purchase for Argan Oil. I cannot wait to try it out! My first purchase was deodorant. I’ve actually tried three different kinds. Not everything will work the same for everyone. I’ve tried Toms and Vanilla.  I have used them both for about 4 months now. I do prefer Toms over Vanilla. Both were purchased at Whole Foods. I recently purchased AGENT NATEUR, and let me tell you it is divine. It’s only been about a week but it certainly does the job and smells heavenly.

Why switch out your antiperspirants first?

Many studies have shown the potential health risks associated with aluminum, such as Alzheimer’s and the concerns about breast cancers from constant use of these ingredients found in antiperspirants. Antiperspirants work by clogging or closing pores with strong astringents such as aluminum salts to keep you from perspiring. Antiperspirants enter your body through the sweat pores and form a temporary plug that prevents the release of sweat. Without any sweat, bacteria have nothing to breakdown, so there is no odor.

As a result, potentially harmful chemicals become trapped in the body when the sweat glands are blocked and can accumulate over time. Some of the chemicals to avoid include: aluminum, parabens, phthalates, triclosan, propylene glycol, and artificial fragrances. These chemicals have been linked to problems including allergies, cancer, hormone imbalance, and endocrine disruption.

What I have learned is that there is a period of detox and you do get a bit smelly it can last a few weeks. If you can hang in there, trust me its worth it. There are so many good products out there on the market now.

Just remember it is a process. You have to do research and find what’s best for your skin. Start with one product, like you’re deodarent or moisturizer and go from there. I’ve just started this process. I will make sure to follow up with all my recent natural products over the next few weeks and let you know how it goes.
